ABOUT HAU CHIOK 施荣宣 (SHI RONG XUAN)

Born in Jinjiang, Fujian, China, Hau Chiok has lived in China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Canada.
He studied Chinese painting under Zhao Shao Ang of Hong Kong and Chinese finger painting under Wu Zhai Yan of Singapore. With wife and fellow artist, Sy Chiu Hua 林玉琦 (Lin Yu Qi), he founded the Philippine Chinese Art Center in 1975. To date, the couple has trained more than three thousand five hundred students from twenty-five countries.
Hau Chiok's paintings have been exhibited in China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines, and the United States of America. He was conferred the title of "Chinese Contemporary Master" by the World Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations in 2006. His art is included in Works of Famous Chinese Masters published by the World Cultural Development Commission of China in 2006, and Leading Contemporary Masters published by Zhong Guo Hua Bao Publication of China in 2007.
The Paintings of Hau Chiok, an album of paintings dating from 1962 to 2008, was published by the Tianjin Renmin Meishu Chubanshe in 2008. In the past six years, Hau Chiok has produced a best-selling series of how-to books and instructional manuals on Chinese painting covering a wide spectrum of genres, including flowers and birds (中国画名家技法经典:岭南派写意花卉技法, 2009), lotuses (中国画技法:彩墨荷花画法, 2011), peonies (彩墨五色牡丹画法, 2011), fish, and insects.
He currently resides in Canada.
